TWMA Awards Ceremony for Best Thesis in Pure and Applied Mathematics for Tunisian Women

The Tunisian Women Mmathematicians’ Association organized an event on Wednesday, December 15, 2021. It was held at the multipurpose room in the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis, Tunis El Manar University. The event consists of the TWMA Awards Ceremony, more precisely, two awards were given : the award of the best thesis in pure mathematics goes to Dr Sabrine Chebbi from Tunis El Manar University and the award of the best thesis in applied mathematics was given to Nahed Naceur from Sousse University/Lorraine University. The course of the ceremony lasted half a day (from 10 am to 1:30 pm).

This ceremony was moderated by Selma Negzaoui TWMA chair who, in a short speech, welcomed all present and thanked her partners the University of Tunis El Manar and the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis. Ms. Selma Negzaoui expressed her gratitude to Professor Hajer Bhouri the president of the jury for the best thesis in pure mathematics and Professor Nahla Abdellatif the president of the jury for the best thesis in applied mathematics for having been invested in this mission. Ms. Selma Negzaoui offered her sincere congratulations to the winners while wishing them good luck before giving the floor to the guests in the following order:
• Ms. Fadila Darragi, Vice-President of the University of Tunis El Manar.
• Mr. Taoufik Ghrairi, Vice-dean of the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis.
• Ms. Saima Khenissy, the founding president of TWMA.
• Mr. Slim Omri, head of the mathematics department at the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis.
• Ms. Nahla Abdellatif, president of the jury for the best thesis in applied mathematics for Tunisian women.
These speeches were followed by a delivery of certificates of thanks to Ms. Fadila Darragi on behalf of the University of Tunis El Manar, Mr. Taoufik Ghrairi on behalf of the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis and Ms. Nahla Abdellatif as President of the jury for the best thesis in applied mathematics. Then, the prize for the best thesis in pure mathematics was awarded to Dr. Sabrine Chebbi and the prize for the best thesis in applied mathematics was awarded to Dr. Nahed Naceur. Afterwards photos were taken and a coffee break was offered to all present. During the coffee break, Mr. Noureddine Amdouni the Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis joined the ceremony.
Following the coffee break, the laureates Dr. Sabrine Chebbi and Dr. Nahed Naceur successively took the stage to introduce themselves, present their award-winning thesis work and answer questions from those present.

The last part in the awards ceremony was dedicated to a debate  to discuss the subject "Mathematics and the job market, what role for scientific associations? "
Contributions focused on making proposals for associations to set up action plans that help young people to think differently about mathematical professions. Training, working groups and open days will be welcome on the one hand, facilitating the access of young people to the job market and on the other hand, spreading the message that education is not the only way out for a mathematician whose initial training allows integration into different scientific and economic fields.
The ceremony was closed by thanking all present at 13:30.
